Privacy policy
Effective November 1, 2026
Dear Folk is a private calendar and greeting app. You can contact us at privacy@dearfolk.app.
Information you choose to save
We store your account name and email, a protected password record, and the information you enter: contacts, dates, locations, time zones, photographs, groups, notes and greetings. Please only add information you have a legitimate reason to keep. Your account has its own calendar.
How we use it
We use this information to operate your calendar, prepare greetings, provide the reminders you enable, protect account access and answer support requests. Password recovery and email confirmation use your account email. Administrators can manage invitations and access. Authorized operators may access stored information when needed for support, security or maintenance; it is not end-to-end encrypted.
Sharing and messaging
You decide whether to share a calendar copy and which information to include. A person who imports a shared copy keeps an independent copy. Dear Folk cannot recall copies already shared or downloaded. Opening a greeting in WhatsApp or another messaging app is your choice. Dear Folk cannot read your chats or contacts in those apps, and it does not send greetings automatically.
Reminders and service providers
If you enable notifications, we store a device registration and your reminder preferences. Notification delivery uses your browser or device provider, and reminder text may appear on a locked screen. You can disable reminders or remove a device in Settings. Our hosting provider is Bluehost. Encrypted recovery backups are also stored in the operator’s Google Drive and on a private backup computer. Email and notification providers process the information needed to deliver those services.
Support and feedback
Feedback includes your message and the screen from which it was sent, not your calendar or greeting contents. If you allow follow-up, we may reply using your account email. Support emails contain whatever information you send us. Do not send passwords.
Storage and retention
Your saved information remains while your account is in use unless you remove it. Recovery backups use a 30-day retention target; failed verification or recovery needs can delay removal. Old protected copies may remain temporarily after account deletion. Access records and security logs may be retained as needed to investigate abuse or meet applicable obligations. We do not sell your contact information or greeting content.
Your choices
You can edit your calendar, download a backup, control sharing and notifications, and request account deletion in Settings → Account & invitations. Requests are reviewed by Dear Folk Support and can be cancelled while pending. You may also email privacy@dearfolk.app, including if you cannot sign in. Deactivation is different from permanent deletion. Administrator accounts need an ownership review. We may need to confirm your identity before acting.
Browser storage and changes
Dear Folk uses a sign-in cookie and browser storage to remember preferences and make the installed app work. Shared devices should be signed out after use. We may update this policy as the service changes; material changes will be communicated through the app or your account email.
